I think this is one of those issues where intent is important. You absolutely know when someone is joking with you because they know you and your silly backwoods ways and you know when someone throws it out with the same disgust and venom as nigger. It absolutely happens and it is absolutely not OK. Sorry, my skin color isn't an excuse for someone to be hateful to me even if it is lily white.

Redneck isnt a racial slur. It's a defintion of a part of white people, that do not necessarily come from the south. They usually do, but being a backwards ignorant racist doesnt require being from the south.

So if you're not backwards, ignorant and racist, yet people call you "redneck" they're prejudiced but not "racist" since it has to do more with attitude than ethnicity.

I think it isnt far from calling me a Guido. I'm Italian but i aint a Guido. Guidos are from a different part of italy than the one i come from, and have a completely different attitude than mine. But to some people it's semantics and they will always consider me a Guido, a mafioso or some other sterotype. I dont consider it racist, it's far less offensive than being insulted because of a different skin colour (after all Guidos exist). It's just ignorant. And most people are ignorant. 99% of them.
