Nerd HS sure, and the kids from Westinghouse HS would come by and fuck with us, and the thugs in Ft Greene (area now gentrified and called Clinton Hills) would rob us but I was one of few nerds in Junior HS.

Yeah you're not being clear.

Either way I don't know that your experience is very common among black folks these days. Being routinely chased home and having racial slurs yelled at you seems very far fetched. Although being bullied and chased home from school as a nerd happens all the time to people of all different races.

I'm black and I'm not saying racism isn't a problem but it's not the blatant open racism of the 1960's where people are chasing you in pick up trucks with hoods any more.

Brooklyn late 80's early 90's was some shit, (this is the era where Al Sharpton came up) while not pick up trucks chasing like in the south it was a Caddilac or occasional Camaro piloted by some jersey shore looking d'bag minus the spray tan. Being bullied (robbed) by a mob of guys never left me with fear of my life, they wanted my money, bus/train pass, fitted Starter Hat, Walkman or something else that was immediately made clear.

That sounds like a scene from Rosewood. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist but you are by far in the minority when it comes to that sort of experience. Being chased home by rabid mobs of racist? Maybe that's how it went in your childhood but I was more likely to be jeered, taunted and assaulted for being a nerd than I ever was for being black.

I don't know how old you are but I'm 31 and when I was considered a nerd it was by blacks and whites alike. I actually never got physically harmed over race but I have had to fight a few times because of my suspected nerdiness.

And I wasn't even that big of a nerd. There were MANY kids who got it WAY worse than I ever did. Kids of all races that were just too unfortunate to hide their nerdom.
