I've met the parents and unfortunately her parents met my mother. I think the whole meeting the parents is a bigger deal for the women. I really didn't care.

I purposely avoided her parents meeting mine. As my parents are long divorced it used to be easy. However, when I had surgery her parents found their way to my house when my mother was in town. I was too doped up on pain killers to put a stop to it.

I completely nixxed any idea of her parents meeting my father when he came to town. I just told her to calm down and don't make a big deal about it, as her and her mother were trying to move mountains to make it happen. Truth be told since my Dad was on vacation he wasn't really into meeting them anyway.

So if you don't want to meet the parents, DON'T. No one can make you. But be smart enough to discuss the issue with your partner and let them know. Or you can buy the book from KATG. I did. It helps.

i contribute my getting divorced on not doing this properly. we were more or less married by the time i met her parents and we were married when she met mine and our parents never met. This made any spending time with family akward and caused us to not do it which meant we smothered each other as we depended on each other for both love and family. This made it impossible to manage day to day stuff and caused us to break up imo
