Exhibit A:
HAHAHAHA! I'm more amused at his response to the phone and "meanwhile.." than what he may be doing. He seems more goofing off than being a nerd lol.

I KNEW this was gonna happen when there's pages upon pages of this shit. I saw this coming too when Chemda mentioned the feedback lol. I feel bad now. This is also a cue to NOT start a Batman discussion with Standardman and our love for Grant Morrison.

Pretty sure it's an individual thing, but since we're labeling, the geeks Ii know aren't awkward at all.

But in the end who I gives a shit, whatever we say or however we define ourselves, as soon as we have an interest or a passion we will be regarded as freaks by the majority. And they're probably right.

Honestly, I think that's me too. I have some geeky interests. It saddens me I got EVERY reference this man got. Though I may not have had nearly as much fervent passion as he. But I still got it. I would say back in high school though? Oh yea, I was with out question in the guests' boat. I just can't remember that many silly dates to the trivia. That's intense right there.

Kinda like the Batman stuff; Batman and Robin used to kill me. I'd rant like there's no tomorrow. Now I simply don't give a shit. It sucks that the franchise went there to that route and ultimately killed the series for awhile (the loss of money was insane) and now the bright side is thanks to that we got Batman Begins and Dark Knight. (and all it's plot holes lol, I still enjoy them) But see back then I would of been exactly like Mike, it wouldn't of been what I said here followed by self hatred and possible contradiction. It would of been this guy ranting for a bit followed by self hatred and possible contradiction.

There is a difference. I wasn't aware one could simply "forget" or "stop" this sorta shit on a whim though. A few fine folks here seem to want to forget or wish it away. You either grow out of it or stay in it I figured? Passion or all of it altogether.

To me, the best part about this episode had to be not the references that made me laugh or cringe at knowing them but had to be the interplay and especially the laughs coming from Keith when he couldn't believe this shit.

I'm pretty sure that there's different degrees of that on both sides.

Geeks usually rant on and on about stuff nobody cares about. Most of them realize that and change argument or stop talking.

On the other side there's people who, even if they dont get your references, still try to engage a conversation or simply say "sorry i have no idea what you're talking about".

Then there's the ones who as soon as you mention anything that they're not intersted in, call you a "weirdo/loser". BTW you're going to get called that way a LOT when you try to explain to people what a podcast is.

Note: Zilla, why are you so self-deprecating? you're a nice guy, i like you. And dont worry about D., he has no feelings (and that's why i love him, somehow)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I get that so much!!! I have to explain to them the several comic book themed ones, the videogame themed ones, the WTF podcast, and KATG are pretty funny or interesting on who they interview. Then have to explain how cool KATG is since it's the one I talk about most.

Most people do not understand why I'd want to listen to talk radio much less this. But they all eventually admit that some of the mischief on the show is HIGH-larious. I will convert them...Oh yes.

Probly not the place for it since I don't want to hijack this thread. I'm a weird dude who has low self esteem? And yet who cracks jokes all the time. Usually to amuse myself rather than others. This is not sick I hope.

The DWarrior has no feelings? I did not know this. I like his 4chan shit quite alot so this makes him the man in my book.

Growing up, I had no idea I was a nerd, despite the fact I collected comic books from the 40's 50's and 60's about ducks without pants. Sure, I got into superheroes out of shame over this, but that was much later. This was still in an era where it wasn't okay to wear a green lantern shirt or some crap. It's easier to be a nerd now ah'days, that I am pretty sure.
My point is, it really hurt my precious little feelings being called a nerd, geek or whatever. I am okay with who I am now, and so are all you. Let's hear it for social misfits with esoteric interests!

PS I love Mike Lawrence.

I never got shit for being a nerd and never got beat up. I'd go so far as to say that my current relationship wouldn't have happened if we weren't both unbelievable nerds, so being a nerd doesn't even mess up me getting laid.

What I'm looking for hear is people for whom being a complete and total giant nerd didn't mess them up. Just seems like an under represented position and I doubt that my story is very unusual.
I'd have to say I was a nerd growing up, but this was in small town Midwest America, so I never felt any of the type of backlash that Keith and other people seem to associate with being a nerd. I was skinny, had glasses, always had a book (sci-fi/fantasy mostly), did well in classes without trying, didn't care for and wasn't good at sports, but I was just another kid.
I guess luckily things just got better (or more normal) in highschool. Went between social circles, like Hosh said, got laid, and even, when I hit my full height at 17, developed some decent athletic ability.
Made good fellow nerdy friends in college, (lets see, a chemist, two dudes in pharmacy school, a guy in dentist school, two guys working on their masters for enginering) which now that I think about it, we might be worse because are inside jokes usually reference various sciences, rather then anime or comic books. Hell, most of these dudes are married or engaged now.

So yes, I can think of a few nerd "success" stories

I just listened to this at work and his quote "G4 is the Uncle Tom of nerds" was spot on. I hate what that network has become.. and TechTV used to be so cool! Also, I never thought I'd ever hear Peter David mentioned on an episode. He's one of my favorite authors.
