Wow! I'm so impressed with Lauren's honesty .... I work with many gay and transgendered youth and it's so fucking hard for them. So it's amazing to hear someone who has made peace with who they are, without shame and self-harm.

I am driving right now in the Australian outback on my way to a locum placement in a rural hospital. I have miles of road in front of me and behind and a big bunch of nothing surrounding me. Seriously, it's like Mad fucking Max out here.

And my only friends right now is Keith and Chemda, Lauren and Michael. And seriously, I'm tearing up - really tearing up. Lauren - you are one of the gutiest, most heroic human beings I have yet encountered. Your candour and raw emotion during your talk was unrelentingly brave and balls to the wall honesty, like I have never witnessed. As a boring fuck heterosexual white male with two kids, the house and mortgage and all that banal domesticity - I am going to keep this episode and one day play it back for my two kids, so any time they are dealing with or struggling with their identity I can remind them of your example and they might find peace within that.

Fuck sports stars, celebrities or religious figures - I'll look up to Lauren Hennessy any day.
