Oh, kid.

The Christians were not (at first) skeptical about the Cardiff Giant because the angels came to earth and mated with human women and had children who were giants was part of their system (Gen 6:4). It was believed that it was only a matter of time before the evidence would be found in the fossil record.

And yes, Skepticism started out as either a belief, religious school, or philosophy. Your time line may vary. Look into a group of (non-Christian) people called the pre-Christian Greeks. Fascinating people.

You're embarrassing Fletch.

Pot Ignorance Bliss Pill

Being surrounded by dirty, filthy hippies at all times, I can say there are many different kinds of pot smokers.
Pot is not meant to be smoked ALL day everyday - hence losing it's affects after awhile.
It depends on your chemistry. Pot effects many different people many different ways.
I personally think it improves quality of life.

Doug Stanhope has a bit on 'Drugs' and how boredom is something that needs to be 'cured' just like your average sickness.

If your brain chemistry if off and you get prescribed pills, I say take them for at least 2 months as recommended and see if it doesn't help.

Some of us are depressed as shit - Take Drugs !!! (moderation)

Sometimes, I think that pills are a band-aid solution unless you’re going to therapy as well. I’ve been seeing a psychologist for a couple of months (I hate psychiatrists – all they ever do is prescribe meds) for depression and I’ve slowly realized how distorted and warped my view of the world really is. I’ve realized that I have some really retarded thinking patterns (and Cognitive Distortions) and these LEAD to the way I see the world and situations and how I feel. So, thanks to cognitive behavioural therapy, I’ve slowly been changing the way I think about things and react to situations and I’ve noticed some really positive changes in myself. I’m finally starting to feel less depressed.

And people should always shop around for a psychologist. A lot of them suck so you should see more than one until you find somebody that you really like/mesh with (and who doesn’t just throw pills at you).

I understand that therapy isn’t for everybody though and I know that I’m lucky that it’s been working for me. I really hope that a time will come when Lucas isn’t always depressed. It’s funny because when I used to be suicidal, the method I planned to use to kill myself was also putting a plastic bag over my head and taking something to knock me out. I think it has the smallest survival rate.

Anyway, for anybody who’s feeling suicidal, The Ten Minute Suicide Guide | Cracked.com is great and it always brought me back from the edge.

Amen. I HIGHLY recommend anyone feeling depression or issues w/ hard drugs to read Dr. Drew Pinsky's book: "Cracked."
It is an excellent read w/ real life accounts of inter-actions w/ drug addicts and really opened my perception of what is fundamentally at the root of most peoples problems/ addictions; which is some sorta trauma in the past.
If you've ever been ass-raped, beaten, left in a car as an infant in the middle of winter in Michigan over night, had a literal whore of an Irish mother who drank heavily and was schizophreniac, OR your simply having a bad day, I highly recommend it.
Apparently, many people suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and don't even know it. You don't have to have been in a war or something to suffer from it. Therapy and a true understanding are the only way to get to the root of the problem.

I Wish Lucas Could Understand 1 Thing....

...a life-long depression is not creative, artistic, your fault, or ANY fun.

There's this self-imposed-illusion that by taking a pill: you somehow are a weak person. OR, that you will become someone else that you don't like.

If your depressed, look around and ask that same old question you have been, "How come everyone else is enjoying life and not miserable every fucking second of every day??" As k this w/ out immediately concluding; I'm different and that's special...

...your not. Your brain's serotonin levels or something are off. Easy fix. Take a pill that helps YOUR brain release the correct levels.

1) You can still be creative

2) You can still be sarcastic and an asshole

3) It won't make you a happy ass, or deprive you of having a bad day and experiencing being miserable... it just makes you normal.

I really wish someone who takes anti-depressants would explain how they work to Lucas.

He seems like a really good guy. Life's too short to be that much in pain - every day.

Jess, it depends on the pill. but i can assure you that all the meds i took completely neutered my personality. And caused me an addiction i'm still dealing with. The depression wasnt fun, but one has to be really careful with meds.

i take them daily and i am against them. so i guess thats not the explanation you're looking for.

maybe something simple, free and thousands of years old.

Meditate, pal.

For your health.

I did have a trauma, but in addition to that depression runs in my family. My maternal grandmother would lay in bed for months at a time. But back then the stigma of seeing a shrink was terrible, especially amongst Midwest working class people. So she went undiagnosed. I think it's a mix of genetics and life experience, personally.
