I get into this place when my RL friends get engaged. I feel like an asshole because everybody knows I'm anti-marriage girl. Also, for some reason, I really can not keep my mouth shut. It's really not my intention to shit on anybody's marriage or their love or whatever. I just hate how women are treated like marriage is the BEST FUCKING THING THEY'LL EVER DO. You can be a PhD with 13 Nobel Peace Prizes and other ladies will think that's pretty cool, but come into work with the right rock on the right finger and they scream and jump up and down like maniacs. This actually happens.
What the shit?! All I want is for marriage to be right sized in our culture. It's a nice custom that some people practice because they feel it applies to them individually and as a unit. Yeah, it's pretty sexist and has a shitty history, but most cultural customs are and do. Just stop the screaming and jumping. Nobody screams and jumps when someone gets bar mitzvahed.

Thanks for the nice wishes, and it's OK to hate marriage, I have my own issues with it, too. But it's the direction I am going in, so let's see where this boat takes us.

I don't recall any screaming at the bar/bat mitsvahs I went to as a kid. I remember the chair dance at the reception, which is more yelling and hopping.
What I'm saying is that no one comes up to my co workers and is like "EEEEEEEE! Little Joey is getting bar mitsvahed on saturday! Are you nervous, OMG [holding hands and jumping up and down.]" They're more like "good luck with the kid this weekend, hope it goes okay." if they say anything at all. Survey says...
Every survey I have ever seen has shown that married people (men and women) are happier, and get laid more often. That being said it's not free and takes compromise. I think of my wife and myself as one person against the world and we seem to be happy.

i think that if your marriage works, then your happy.
my main problem with marriage is that the costs of failure are so huge that lots of people force stay together even if they're unhappy. divorce is not that simple and a frustrating marriage is horror. id marry, of course, if it seems right. but as much as id love to enlieve that eternal love exists, i havent seen it yet. |
