Prostitution is legal in New Zealand (since 2003). Reviews that have been done since legalisation suggest there hasn't been an increase in the number of sex workers operating, although they are, perhaps, slightly more visible as they don't need to hide in dark corners.

There are still local body laws that determine where brothels can be and how they operate - prostitutes rent rooms in a brothel, rather than being managed by the brothel owners. Others walk the street. In Christchurch most are in the city centre - although that has been closed since our earthquake on Feb 22 so they've had to move a bit further afield. News reports show the local sex workers were doing a roaring trade in the weeks following the quake due to the overseas urban search and rescue teams and Australian police that were in town. Linky - BUSY! (On an almost related note - one of our main strip clubs has been doing home visits since the quake )

There is a certain level of protection available to the prostitutes here now - for example they can go to the police and report assaults, whereas previously that was difficult; there are higher levels of safe sex; sti checks are done regularly; there is a Prostitutes Collective that supports the rights of and educates sex workers (funded by the Ministry of Health) and now that sex work is legal there are far fewer 'shady' characters involved.

Personally, I find it rather ridiculous that prostitution should be illegal. As long as they are working willingly and people are happy to pay for their services it's all good.

For the record - involuntary prostitution - sex slavery, those coerced/forced into it - is still illegal here.

Prostitution will be a sketchy businessmen regardless of if it is legal or not. However i believe that it will be significantly less dangerous and abusive when women can go to the police without incriminating themselves and government officials inspect the operations. I am sure there is at least one whore who can explain to the others how to unionize.

I for one could see a huge difference between that friday song and other pop songs and i am not even into pop music. It is probably a function of your age (i am 19), i know that i couldn't tell a good jazz song from a bad one for shit.

Also i have to agree with whoever said that delfino's song was quite bad. See mumbled a lot of the lyrics and it seemed like you would barely have to know how to play a guitar to be able to play what she played in that song.

For bad jazz just think of your annual high school talent shows, also youtube "avant garde jazz" (in general, for a shitty ______, youtube "avant garde ______"). I've mostly listened to Coltrane, so I'll stick to using him as an example:

Good jazz:

Bad jazz:

(ok, so this is supposed to be genius, but at least for us mortals this is a close imitation of bad jazz)

It would definitely be better than the stripper union.

I don't see how porn can be legal and prostitution illegal.
A women is allowed to sell her body in front of a camera but not otherwise.

Elizabeth Taylor was not in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane! Bette Davis & Joan Crawford, much older than she at the time.

I would hate it if the government regulated prostitution and enforced mandatory STD screenings for sex workers. Where is the sense of danger in that?
