The way this was handled by the people who didn't have the courtesy to keep the participants up to speed indicates that this show was given to a bunch of immature young adults in a kit box labelled 'my first tv production'. When things went wrong - and it was most likely with the interpersonal business relationships (e.g. between the channel and the its advertisers, or somebody pissed somebody off, or somebody didn't get their 'cut', whatever) - the production team just ran away, at least one of them sniggering in that dopey 'oops' way.

Hearing back the show, KATG read my comment out of time and it made no sense (the "did you know he was raped in the ass" was meant to be the answer for "he switched kinda easily"). And yes, I think if we can get a few people to infiltrate the Neo-Nazi groups and then go around raping other neonazis, we'll destroy the organization pretty quickly. Noone's gonna think "man, I keep getting raped by my own race, but I just love it so much, I just gotta tough it out"

Did anybody else think the caller sounded totally schlocky? His "yes and" routine was driving me pretty crazy by the end of the call. Sounds like the guy was still on the pitch.

Yeah, he really was.

W/ a show like that, I think the most interesting thing you can do is be honest & not blow everyone involved.

But really, w/ the amount of pure horeshit that is on television, & especially a couple of the shows on Travel Channel, they take an interesting, niche thing like that off the air. Oh well, I guess, but it sucks for all involved.

As for Paul riser, that show was just awful. The problem is the NBC show Outsourced (also a piece of shit) They have outsourced and 4 good shows (Community, office, parks, 30 rock) and they don't want to have a 2 1/2 hour must see TV so they have been trying to find a 6th show to pad it out hoping people will stomach though it between community and office. (they don't have anything to put at 10 because ER is over and Dramas that replaced it weren't happening)

They need to get a new drama (maybe a campy low-budget genre show thats really more fun then dramatic) and stick it at 10 and try to get a small, but loyal, audience that those shows get. Or just say fuck it and run syndicated hits.

(Also, if any NBC execs are reading this, I have a show I would like to make that combines lost and degrassi with time traveling in high school that will require very little effects please contact me)

It seems like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm both added new elements to TV (but I could be wrong, I don't watch enough old TV). The Paul Reiser show is definitely 100% derivative.

He was almost ballsy enough to compare his show to Nirvana. I rolled my eyes when he did compare it to Mudhoney and Freaks and Geeks. He was very annoying.
