i do not have a problem with eating animals and do not see much wrong with the way we farm animals morally (sanitation and health is another issue), but eating dolphins (and those fish things that are supposed to be smart) seems to cross a line for me.

Even crazier than the nerds that beat portal straight away is the nerds that unlocked Valve's secret easter eggs in order to get an early release of Portal.
They released a bundle of indie games called the 'Potato Sack' on their PC marketplace Steam for users to buy, and in each game were tiny hints: "Based on the hidden messages in the solutions found by those playing the alternate reality game, and a countdown timer that appeared on the fictional Aperture Science website, some postulated that Portal 2 would be released a few days early, even as soon as the morning of April 15, 2011. Instead, at that time, "GLaDOS@home" was launched, a spoof of other distributed computing programs, which encouraged players to play and complete various challenges in the Potato Sack games to release Portal 2 on Steam before the planned April 19, 2011 date, under the pretense of providing enough computational power to "reboot GLaDOS". The efforts of those that participated allowed the game to be unlocked on Steam approximately ten hours before the originally planned time." Portal 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

thats not correct man, i fo0llowed the potato sack thing, it wasnt THAT nerdy or about easter egss. it supposedly" asked you to buy a bunch of very good indie games to speed up the release. it was a cutesy way to promote those indie developers. the easter egss were there for the nerds too, but they werent the focus of the promotion.
and yeah, Portal 2 is a hard ass game, anyone who beats it in a few hours is cheating or is a sad loser that doesnt play games but runs through them to brag on forums. stil, its good. |

I'm happy about the video game talk on this episode.
![]() Portal 2 was probably my favorite titles of the last 2 years, at least. I ended up spreading the single player out over 2 days. I had to force myself to stop, it was just that enjoyable. The story was amazing & I came no where close to finding all the secret areas & Easter eggs, but I found some, as I did take the time to look. There are a lot of people saying they did it the first time in 3 1/2 hours. Those people are dicks. If they did it in that time, they took ZERO time to enjoy everything the game offers. Honestly, even if I steadily did the puzzles at moderate pace, & didn't play around, I think it would be closer to 5 hours. But yeah, there is so much to read & so many areas to explore, the more time you take is probably for the best. & then there is the multiplayer campaign, which is essentially another 4-5 hours of doing puzzles, fully voiced w/ another part of the story. The multiplayer, in my opinion, is more difficult than the single player, especially in the later stages. I loved every second of it. & once they complete & release the map editor for the PC, there will be a hundred more games worth of content to complete. The initial price tag is a little high, but the game, in my opinion, is definitely going to be Game of the Year. There are a lot of other popular games coming out (lots of 3s, like Mass Effect, & then there is the new Deus Ex), but I have played many GotY titles in the past, & this trumps a lot of them. |

Valve DOES promote other games, especially indie games on a pretty regular basis, and of course that was an incentive, but the intent behind the Potato Sack was absolutely promotion for Portal (the Potato Sack logo shows that well enough). Either way it definitely did a good job of promoting both the indie games and Portal, so win win. And as far as it not being nerdy, I wasn't into the ARG at all, but from friends that were I heard at one point they found 3 GPS coordinates in Seattle and were trying to triangulate a location and send people there to see what was there.... That's pretty nerdy. Last edited by EthanK; 04-29-2011 at 07:10 AM. |

i dont know, its one of those cases where the term nerd is misused. I think of "Nerds" of antisocial, snarky assholes who scoff at each other and dislike other people. the whole ARG seemes like a very social oriented treasure hunt. They seemed to be having fun and encouraged other people to join in and help. Doesnt sound like a "nerd" attitude to me.
its aprt of the virala campaigns. Only other succesful thing i can think of is the one NIN did for their Year Zero album. I think its fun, the opposite of antisocial. make speople interact with each other even more than the game. Unless we want to label as nerd anyone who does anything computer related or whatever, but as i said before, that would mean that all KATGERs are nerds of the worst kind. |
