We taught our girls "underpants" and my mom uses panties and it makes me cringe. She also said "poopers" instead of "poo". Ick. We teach the anatomical words mostly, and it is great when my daughter announces that she "needs to go pee out of her vagina" in a quiet group setting

We tried to teach Brittish slang, bum instead of butt or bottom, bogie instead of booger, wicked instead of awesome...it has been fun hearing them use those words =)

it isnt strictly religious, as its not tied up to religion, its a cultural thing to break down women. the religion is econdary. its almost imèpossible to erase too, since its litterally a STAPLE of culture in some parts of africa.
From what I've heard, the most successful action against female circumcision is actually a sort slight of hand approach. There's an organization that sets up free clinics for parents to come to where their daughter can have the most absolute minimal circumcision, which is basically partial removal of the clitoral hood, vary much like a male circumcision in the west. The clinics advertise as being the safe way to circumcise your kid, and it's free.

So parents go, the kid experiences the least possible amount of damage, and no one has to go through life without a vulva. It's not the best outcome, but it's much better than having your cunt scrap off by a strange old witch in a dirty little room.

all i know is we used to attempt recovery for the victims.

yours seems a good idea, although some places we worked at would've probably had people seeing the clinics as an "outsider" intervention

The only thing I heard about this is that it was a change in recommendation by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and after public outcry they reversed this recommendation. I haven't heard of any clinics that have actually adopted this. Part of the issue is that the people who are this insistent on following their cultural practices are not going to be mollified by a "ceremonial nick." They're going to honestly believe that only the real thing is appropriate for their children.

I think the child pageants are okay because it gives the kids a sense of modeling for when get older and want to model as a career.

If they need botox already, they'll never make it anyways. Give it up, kid.

right, because models are really well rounded people and do such good things as roll models to other people. I mean, look at Tyra, she has sure taught me my number one lesson as an adult...how to smize.
