Keith,
You're wrong about the Dalai Lama. He is not a homophobe. I'll explain...

First, it's important to understand that he is a monk. He was taken from his family to the temples to study when he was a very small child. Though he sometimes makes public appearances, most of his life is spent in meditation. Everything he does with his body is aimed at enlightenment-- which is probably why he's never eaten pizza. And importantly, he has been celibate his whole life. So anything he says about sex comes directly from what he has been taught in his lifetime of studying Buddhist teachings.

And in Buddhist teachings, sexual contact-- any sexual contact-- is only to be used for procreation. So, when he said that homosexual sex was sexual "misconduct," that's what he meant-- any sexual act is misconduct for a strict Buddhist if it is not being done for procreation. Even a straight married couple having oral sex or manually stimulating each other would be considered misconduct.

In his 1996 book Beyond Dogma, he clearly states, "A sexual act is deemed proper when the couples use the organs intended for sexual intercourse and nothing else....Homosexuality, whether it is between men or between women, is not improper in itself. What is improper is the use of organs already defined as inappropriate for sexual contact." He has said that sex offers fleeting satisfaction and trouble later, while chastity offered a better life and "more independence, more freedom"

But when it comes to homosexual people, and the rights that they deserve, the Dalai Lama has been very clear. Here are some examples of statements he has made:

1. A message that he sent to the 23rd Annual World Conference of ILGA-- the ILGA is an international organization of more than 600 groups from around the world, which actively campaigns for LGBTIQ rights on the international human rights and civil rights scene and regularly petitions the United Nations and governments. If you are a homophobe, you do not involve yourself with this group. Period. Here is part of his message (link here):

Quote:
His holiness is greatly concerned at reports of violence and discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. His holiness opposes violence and descrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and urges respect, tolerance, and the full recognition of human rights for all.
2. In a 1994 interview with OUT Magazine (which is a magazine for gay men), he explained:
Quote:
If someone comes to me and asks whether homosexuality is okay or not, I will ask 'What is your companion's opinion?' If you both agree, then I think I would say, if two males or two females voluntarily agree to have mutual satisfaction without further implication of harming others, then it is okay.

I don't know where you are getting your information about the Dalai Lama, but if it says he's a homophobe, it's incorrect. And I would like to see the quote where he calls homosexuality an "abomination." I googled it and couldn't find it anywhere, and I honestly doubt he would use that word in this context.

EDIT: Keith, I CHALLENGE YOU to watch the movie Kundun (1997, Scorsese). You talk very freely about a lot of things you know nothing about, and I think if you're going to continue to rant about the Dalai Lama, you should at least learn a little about his life, his faith, Tibetan culture, and its history of oppression by the Chinese government. I wouldn't dare ask you to read a book about him, but I think you can handle a Hollywood movie, at least. Plus, it's an extremely beautiful movie, and should be a great watch for you and Kat for a night in.

"Yeah, Keith, you should learn the cold hard facts first. So watch this movie!"

You're silly. When is "go watch a movie!" considered a CHALLENGE?

Invaders Nerd Corner.

To be fair, the fairly recent Green Lantern comic story arch; Blackest Night, was lauded for breathing life back into the comic book scene and breaking sales records. After hearing this I decided to read the Blackest Night, and it blew fucking balls. So at best if the movie faithfully followed the plot line of the comic it was going to suck balls.

Now the powers of the green lantern are pretty interesting the ring is powered by the users will power/courage . The ring basically chooses whoever has the strongest will and is only limited by the users imagination. Also the color yellow isn’t a weakness anymore, as long as the wearer of the ring knows how to control/face his fears (yellow represents fear where as green represents courage and strength of will).

Long story short, the green lantern is a pretty interesting superhero character as far as his powers and abilities go, but no one has ever really done anything interesting with it story wise. Everything else about his world sucks ass, the comics aren’t worth reading and the movie isn’t worth watching.

I tent to honestly think that regardless of what the dali lama was taught, that the point being made by keith's ever-so-entertaining rants, is that it shouldn't matter either way what the hell he was taught or brought up with, that he shouldn't be so outspoken about homosexuality or anything concerning it. the whole pizza thing is tied in because if his Holiness can't understand what a food is (which by now isn't just a food but practically in every home in the country at least once a month, and is about as common as the whole homosexual issue) then he shouldn't have such opinions on such important things especially one of such an awesome scale, really if those thoughts and opinions aren't even his,

So, given that, its perfectly understandable that K has such rants and opinions. Think outside the box, babe. It works.

Btw- bulletproof monk- such a better movie

I do security on a couple of my days off, but actually no. I'm a deputy sheriff for my county and I do the whole security thing to kill time. Is it an issue or just general curiosity?

And its armed security for a gated community, but like I said my main gig is a deputy
