The cardinal rule for camping and hiking and things outdoorsy is "Leave behind only footprints" or as our State Park says 'carry in, carry out'.
Leaving the tent is littering and I'm surprised that Keith would do that. I do think however, if I may be so bold to guess what he is thinking, that he is only thinking of it from the money point of view and perhaps didn't realize that leaving the tent is littering. |

I think there is an unspoken rule in camping/state parks that you're "allowed" to leave behind something useful, something that another camper may use. I know when we go camping in upstate NY, we always find bits of rope, metal grills, pots and pans, and other hard goods that we make use of. We've left tools and things behind for the next folks because we know it will be put to good use, or at least left at the lean-to as part of the general furnishings.
