I saw the transcript of the Williams Jr. thing but hadn't heard the clip until this show. He sounds like Mr. Garrison with a twang! Made me laugh every time he spoke.
My favorite part is the end: "OBAMA! And Biden. The Three Stooges." "That's only two." |

I was so moved by Chemda's mom story I found myself crying happy tears. I too came out to my ethnic mom a hundred years ago in a therapy session that took the better part of an hour, staring at the floor in shame, and gallons of tears to mouth the words, I'm gay. I wish Chemda much strength on the visit and the process over the next bit. Thanks for sharing the experience with us.

Chemda, I'm so happy for you. Congrats. Listening to your story made me want to tear up. Coming out to your parents is never easy, especially when you've got old fashioned ethnic parents. Your mom seems to have taken it well(ish) by saying they just want you to be happy and the fact that she asked questions and seemed to want to know more, maybe not right away but eventually. When I told my old-school Mexican/super-Catholic-church-lady mom she stayed silent for a long time. After some prodding from me about how she felt she just talked about Jesus, the Bible and how it wasn't my fault that I was born wrong. She quickly changed the subject and three years later the topic has never been brought up again.

i heart Chemda life stories
i fucking love Chemda. So great to hear that she had the opportunity to share w/ her mom where she's at.
When you love someone, I think all that matters, ( if the love is TRUELY reciprocal) is that the person is happy and doing well. Especially as a parent. Big up s to Chemda for sharing her life experiences and to Lauren for being supportive. Jesus fuck. What a loving tale. I wept. Cheers. Goddamn it. I love this show! |

I always thought it was weird that if you are ethnic, your parents' beliefs are called traditional. But if you are white and your parents believe the same kinds of things, its called racism and bigotry.
P.S. I'm not traditional, racist, or a bigot.
