I want to try that sandwich.

This is probably arguing semantics but he made fun of a language not a race, a white guy speaking Arabic would produce the same verbal cues that Jesse identifies with odd sounds. It sounds like he just finds it amusing to mimic odd sounds. It still isn't very high brow, I rate it only slightly higher than laughing at a fart.

Jesse wasn't disparaging the language, only interpreting it, so it's racial but not racist. Unless you consider the horrendous noise he was making to be inicative of disparagement, in which case he was really racist.
By the way let me mention this, speaking of interpreting things: Chemda Presents Her Interpretations Of Movie Trailers should be a regular thing on the show. Quote:

Blame the Greeks
The word Barbarians, came about because the Greeks thought the languages of those north of them, sounded like Barbbarbbarb.
This has to be the Best show that has had Jesse Joyce on it. I didn't have to constantly turn the volume up and down on my MP3 player when he was speaking... He didn't turn away from the mike, he didn't lower his voice, he didn't start whispering... Thank you! Great Show! |
I dunno.
Generally I think if someone went up to an Asian and said "This is what you sound like! Ting ting ting ting ting!" it might be considered racist. But, to be honest, I didn't start thinking "Wow, what a racist!" when he was doing the same thing about the Canadians, so I guess it must be okay. I think it's just Jesse being Jesse. Good show! |
Okay, I know making movie recommendations is tricky business, but Keith you might like the Paradise Lost movies. This is about the West Memphis 3 murder case in which three young boys were murdered and the prosecution trumped up "satanic ritual killing" as a motive and pinned the killings on three teenaged boys, one of whom was condemned to death for it. They only recently got out of prison, but the state still didn't want to admit it made a mistake so it made a plea deal wherein the men had to submit an Alford plea (which is a guilty plea where the defendant says, "I still didn't do it."). So as far as the state is concerned the case is over and they will never seek out the real murderer(s). Personally, I think the stepfather of one of the kids did it, but now we'll never know.
