I like the banana argument because can be demolished. Not all bananas are the same, not all of them grow to the same proportions. I just get an edible one that isn't in the right sizes for a hand and point out their argument is wrong.

But there is another argument. It states in the bible that you should not hybridize livestock and you shouldn't plant different crops in the same field.

To me this sounds like you shouldn't hybridize crops, because if you did put two or more crops in the same field, this this could happen. When I ask most religious Christians, they usually agree.

As Keith pointed out most wild bananas are inedible. Large hard seeds fill the inside of the banana. Edible bananas are all hybrids of the various species of bananas that would not normally cross in the wild, and like mules they are all sterile. If they were not sterile, they would be filled with seeds.

When I've brought this up, some religious Christians have stated they will not eat bananas, and other simply say, we live in a modern world and we shouldn't take the bible literally... except when they want you to.

Why is a banana the way it is.

I really wish some more people would read books by Susskind & Brian Greene.

Intelligent design is an illusion.

The only thing magical about the banana's shape is the golden ratio which appears in nature everywhere.

and the reason apes open the banana from the bottom is so you don't get those strings if you do it the other way.

try it . . . you will see what I mean. Lauren knows! ; )

Yeah, I saw a video of the monkey thing once. It works. You don't even have to bite it. Just pinch the bottom and it opens right up. Opening from the top is hit or miss and sometimes you end up smooshing the top of the banana.

What about pencils? You can't tell me indigenous varieties weren't usable right away, otherwise how would people invent art and writing.
