Does anyone feel sorry for the American soldier who shot up 16 Afghans in recent days?

I actually do...poor bastard probably just snapped and lost his shit completely. Time to pull out of that cluster fuck?

This charity is bullshit in the way that the Komen Foundation was shown to be bullshit. The majority of their money goes to themselves. Similar to the Komen Foundation, who spends almost nothing on cancer research but will spend millions of dollars in legal fights if anyone else has the nerve to use a pink ribbon, and pay their CEO half a million dollars per year.

Hmmm...I remembering protesting on behalf of Invisible Children back in...2008, before W gave support to the Ugandan government. At that point we were doing it because while Kony was exiled in 2005-2006, he had evaded capture and has been on the run since then. He was also exerting a lot of influence to cause problems. From what I understand his forces are now down to a couple hundred, what with the 30,000 children that is being cited was the total number of children over the 30 years. Even if the immediate problem is, basically, resolved, I would say the effects of his crimes would be felt for a generation and maybe with his face plastered all over the place he'll get caught. So...maybe it's a little dissengenous, but the ultimate result can only be a good one.

I agree with you. We all should know everything. However, how can we? You are from the country. You are aware. Most people are not.

Do you think there are similar situations around the world that you're not aware of? We're all interested in continuing our education. Is it sometimes a day late and a dollar short? Usually it is! That doesn't mean people shouldn't be outraged when they first hear of it.

I don't agree, call me pessimistic, but, as I said previously, catching him isn't going to save anyone. He'll be put to justice... but then what? All these "Liberation" groups in Africa will learn their lesson? No, someone will come to take his place and might be even worse then Kony. The reason Africans join these groups are a lack of education and desperation(food water and shelter). the only way to stop this is to provide them with the knowledge to take care of themselves and not rely on these "charismatic"(for lack of a better word) warlords.

Family Closeness

As Keith was talking today about a cousin (at least I think it was a cousin) that had died it reminded me a new story in Ontario.

They found a body in 1997 and only NOW identified it at a 17 year old girl. Her family never reported her missing. They say that they weren't very close and when she moved away they never kept in touch. Now, I have distant family members... but how can you not be concerned if nobody has heard from your daughter/sister in 15 years? In the article I read the family said they thought she was a stripper or a waitress somewhere.....

If I were donating I wouldn't give it to Kony 2012 in particular because the word is getting out now and that is really most of what they do. However while I don't support a strong military presence anywhere including Uganda, sending money for arms for the Ugandan people to protect there children from becoming yet another generation of child soldiers who will grow up to continue fucking up their country isn't that bad of an idea. As for the people who are afraid it will turn into Afghanistan/Iraq you are fucking high. Kony is nowhere NEAR as well funded as say, a several decade long dictatorship or the largest suppliers of heroin for the world. He pillages with his child army to get just enough to survive and stay in hiding. It shouldn't require more than a few guns for the Ugandan military which could easily be afforded with donations and some military officers to advise them on how to track down Kony, No big deal (we were already doing this). The whole point of the Kony 2012 movement was to keep these efforts going and spur more people to donate to get it done by the end of the year. Will it work, maybe. Will it cost us an arm, a leg, and over a decade of out troops being on the battlefield. Not fucking likely. Is it worth the minor financial cost and having to look at some ugly propaganda to maybe get rid of a tyrant? I think so. It beats going to these rebels in the middle east and helping them, they are so fundamentally against us because of their fanatic dogmatism that they will never except us no matter how many trillion dollars we spend to help them.
