Foxcon
Maybe Foxcon isn't as bad as it was made out to be, but I'm sure worse conditions than working in the great USA.
However, I watched the latest episode of This Week In Tech, and they estimated that for the "new" iPad, it'd only cost Apple about $60 more to make in the USA and they would still have an ok profit margin with the current price. I'm a self admitted Apple-Fanboy, but when Steve was alive (especially right after his return to Apple), he had USA factories to make the components for his products, so I guess he could micro-manage the whole process. If you ask me, when the Apple components were made in the USA, they were higher quality. I have a late-2009 iMac 27" that is now on it's third monitor and second optical drive. I also have an ancient G4 Mac, and its optical drive has never failed --- works to this day --- the computer is just outdated. I know Apple charges a premium price, but that's supposed to be for premium parts and the stuff coming out of there now just isn't. They make cool products, but they've outsourced the components and Apple products are becoming disposable just like everything else. Either lower the price, or give us back the good components! |
