Yeah - that would NEVER happen in the UK. Despite the fact that we DON'T have separation between church and state. Which is odd.

I looked it up. 71.6% identify themselves as Christian.
That 71.6% is based on Census data, I think, and it's notoriously unreliable. People tend to tick Christian on that if they were christened even if they don't believe a thing and have never set foot in a church since.

(When that 71.6% was asked the follow-up question ‘Are you religious?’, only 29% of the same people said ‘Yes’ while 65% said ‘No’, meaning over half of those whom the census would count as having a religion said they were not religious. Less than half (48%) of those who ticked ‘Christian’ said they believed that Jesus Christ was a real person who died and came back to life and was the son of God.)

What is interesting is that when a potential separation of church and state is mooted in the UK and it is discussed on TV shows and on the Radio, the USA is often pointed to as a bad example of what can happen if we separate church from state ie. the power and pervasiveness of the fundamentalist Christian right in the USA and the existence of people like Dennis Terry. I can't see the link myself.

Is that a cigarette in your hand? You shouldn't smoke.

A cigarette? No - that's just the light reflecting off the bar behind me.
Smoking is banned in pubs/bars here too.

I would like to hear Keith do a review of the documentary "Jesus Camp". Now THAT is a scary movie.

Something is a certain way, she thinks it's wrong and that makes her angry, who cares if it has been that way her whole life?

I have no problem trying to change it. I encourage her to do so. Just don't be surprised that it's a certain way.

Hearing my post read on the show after that dude preaching made me sad, because I realized it's never going to stop. Sure, all I really want is them to shut the hell up, but it's apalling that one person can be so backwards and anti-American. Whatever happened to the melting pot? Freedom of religion? He's selling his shit like it's Americanism on high, and that crowd is buying it wholesale.

The fact that he was Santorum's opener automatically gave me a reason to vote. I was with Keith on the "Let's not vote, they'll give us what we want," front, but I heard that congregation. You can't convince them not to vote. He's not who I want in office, if he supports that bullshit. I know my vote will get cancelled out among the many who want to vote for him, but I have to do something. I don't want to stand by and let this atrocity pass.

Thanks for the wake-up call, Keith and Chemda. If I kept politically flying blind through 2012, I'd have missed something this big.
