I don't understand GOP opposition to "ObamaCare" -- the status quo was unacceptable and would have bankrupted the nation within the decade. There were really only 3 options to fix things: 1. Medicare For All, 2. Private Insurance with a Public Option, and 3. Private Insurance with tons of reforms to make it cost effective and more universal. Liberals wanted option 1, would have settled for option 2, and were forced to accept option 3. Option 3 (which is what ObamaCare is) is the conservative solution to health care. The individual mandate is a the brainchild of conservatives, and was put into effect in Massachusetts by a Republican. It is not socialist, liberal, or progressive in any way. It's a corporate solution, but it's a step in the right direction, so Democrats put on a happy face. Republicans who want to "repeal and replace" ObamaCare have STILL not put forth any reasonable plan -- just vague goals with no way to pay for it all (like they didn't pay for the 2 wars, the Bush tax cuts, and Medicare D). Fiscal conservatives, my sweet ass! Sweet. Ass. |

besides that, i love Ron Winkler's (aka Lauren's dad) way of saying things. Informative and charming. And if im not mistaken he even used "Jack" as an interjection, like CHarles Manson did!
Thats pure 60's/70's lingo. |

[QUOTE=Edward's Screen Name;726552]The affordable care act is a difficult thing to understand, which is why Lauren's conservative Christian and conservative-talking-point-leaning dad, understandably, is so wrong about his understanding of it.
Here is the best, and most concise, explanation of the ENTIRE aspect of the ACA. Here's a link to the original thread along with citations. CaspianX2 comments on ELI5: What exactly is Obamacare and what did it change?: What people call "Obamacare" is actually the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. However, people were calling it "Obamacare" before everyone even hammered out what it would be. It's a term mostly used by people who don't like the PPACA, and it's become popularized in part because PPACA is a really long and awkward name, even when you turn it into an acronym like that. Anyway, the PPACA made a bunch of new rules regarding health care, with the purpose of making health care more affordable for everyone. Opponents of the PPACA, on the other hand, feel that the rules it makes take away too many freedoms and force people (both individuals and businesses) to do things they shouldn't have to. I'm a fan...good post! Last edited by stevo8523; 06-29-2012 at 04:01 PM. |

Based on the quote, I though Ray was going to be on the show.

Well put. Lauren's father said a lot of people who voted for Obama were also unhappy with Obamacare, but that has much more to do with the fact that they wanted 1 or 2 (from your comment) i.e. they wanted at least a public option. People who voted for Obama in general aren't unhappy because he passed some sort of universal healthcare (which is what I am assuming is Lauren's dad's problem with it is). Quote:
Republican counter point: Romneycare was only for his 1 state and not the whole country. So if e.g. Obamacare was only in Lauren's dad's state Hawaii then Lauren's dad could just move (and leave his business, house, where he's lived for what sounds like decades) and then it would be something he wouldn't have a problem with. |

I don't know who to vote for on the poll. I'm so fucking up Kieth's science and I do not mean too. Both Kieth and Chemda had great points...Fehck. =(
God I disagree so much with Ron but he seems like SUCH an interesting dude!! I may have to check his shit OUT after all. He should totally be a regular! Sides which, I actually like disagreeing with people (as long as it stays civil). I have read about all that which has been posted on the healthcare act and that's fine...Despite Ron's disagreement with the act, I still agree with Kieth. It still seems too good. This thing was 3000 pages last I checked and one page mentioned shit about the National fucking Guard; random-much? So is this gone now? I had heard somethings were removed...Dunno if there was any truth to this because quite frankly every god damn news source has no consistency what-so-ever on this topic. As it was being proposed it was viewable online. I skimmed it. It was long as shit. I see no mention of some of what I read and what I DO hear I do not recall. I could of forgotten. But what happeh? Is this a new version? Am I high?
