The way I see it is a tip is to show gratitude for great service and I don't consider handing me something across a counter great service, they're just giving the me the item i paid for. Great service to me basically amounts to giving me information I wouldn't normally have (like what's better on a menu) or ensuring that I'm comfortable and able to focus on why I'm at the establishment (talking with friends or enjoying entertainment). These are things that aren't essential to the transaction that's happening so I consider them tip worthy.

If the action is essential to the transaction (like ringing in an order or handing me an item) then I consider that part of the purchase price and not requiring a tip unless the person does something especially incredible.

For example I would tip for exceptionally good food even though it kinda falls under my no tipping guideline I mentioned above, but it has to surprise me.

Chemda's point about someone needing a gun for protection (i.e. that woman needing a gun for protection against a dangerous stalker) is valid, but it only makes the point for handguns. No private citizen needs an assault weapon.

Marry his mom or marry Cat?

This deserves clarification because it could go either way.

Is it legal to marry your mom?

What about your dad if you're a dude and gay marriage is legal?

I just started going to a place that has the tip option on the receipt and it is sort of a unnecessarily awkward situation. I always tip so I feel bad when they stand there watching me sign and not tip them, but all they did was hand me a pre prepared sandwich and I'm broke so yeah.... I just wish the cashier wasn't so friendly/hot it would help ease my unnecessary guilt.

On a side note, I thought renegade of funk looked good so that's an odd choice for fuckinguglyDOTgov. I'm curious if she got paid or they just found a picture online.

That depends entirely on where you live.
