Well, it's not entirely arbitrary. The cultural reason for not eating dogs/cats is because we used them to aid us in other ways.

Also, according to wiki dog meat has pretty bad macros. (Dog meat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) though it's probably because they weren't testing the leanest cuts, and the dogs weren't bred for maximal lean meat growth.

Haha yeah, man. Most people would say yeah. You're right that it shouldn't really matter because meat is meat, but it's not arbitrary. We have an emotional attachment to some animals and not to others. The large sea insects thing is overrated. We eat crab legs and lobster tail and not a whole lobster. The reason is because they look like bugs. It doesn't occur to a lot of people that they are eating bugs until they get a crawfish in front of them. The same way people get freaked out by crawfish and eels is the same way people get cuted out by a rabbit or kittens or chicks. It's an emotional investment. I would agree that the emotional attachment is arbitrary.

Crayfish?

Emotional attachment is a byproduct of evolutionary adaptation that is our social fabric, so that too is not arbitrary.

Question

Keith's gun rant got me thinking about this friend of a friend I know who is a real gun enthusiast- loves guns, loves hunting, loves shooting, and was brought up with gun culture. He also loves to clean his guns...especially when drunk in front of company. I should mention he also has some anger issues and substance abuse issues- great combination for a guy wih 4 or 5 guns (and a cross bow), right??

He got in an argument with his roommate a couple of weeks ago whilst hammered and shot a hole in the ceiling of the house. Last weekend he threated someone with a knife in his hand. Was I surprised? Not really, but you can bet your bum that as soon as the guns come out at that house, I GTFO.

He's also redneck, hick fuck if that wasnt spelled out enough above.

Sadly I am a believer that if we took the guns away only the bad guys would have them (didn't Keith give England or some other bullshit country that isn't M'erica shit for their police not having guns?)

I do like the idea though of there being local gun ranges in every town, maybe next to the local post office, and you have guns that you rent or keep there since a gun range is the only place you should be using these crazy ass assault rifles at, and then you return it when you're done.

Angry Hunters and Heroes

I agree with Keith a 100% on guns. I fell the same way about gun owners that I feel about people that drive trucks. When the shit hits the fan people with guns are not going to be out saving lives. They are going the people that are going to tell you to "Run Your Pockets". They will be the same people that will hunt you down and rape you and your love ones. Play Call of Duty online and hear what half these douche bags say online. Even people playing video games with guns in it can't be trusted. Even if there is a Zombie Outbreak people with guns are going to be a threat.

Stupid and irresponsible people are always going to find a way to be stupid and irresponsible. We do need stricter gun laws, but you can’t legislate common sense. The ability to think critically and problem solve are skills that are severely lacking in the vast majority of Americans. These two basic skills aren’t taught in our schools and as a result we have people who think it’s a good idea to scare the hick-ups out of someone by pointing a gun in that persons face and pulling the trigger. Or that you don’t need to have sex with condom if you just pull out. As a result you get another generation just as stupid if not more so than their parents. Screw background checks. I propose a basic written test of about a hundred questions or so that require simple skills such as reading comprehension, basic problem solving and critical thinking. You pass, you get to own a gun. That way we at least know that, that person won’t think it’s a good idea to start a nail by using a hand gun and most likely they won’t be hanging around someone who thinks it’s a good idea either.
