I think Chemda and guests have been holding the fort pretty awesomely. Also Lauren has been on the past 2 shows kinda so it's like Lauren and The Girl

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but his bill is likely going to be closer to 50k. MRIs alone run around 6k and it sounds like they ran every single test they could think of. Plus every single thing they can possibly think of charging for they do. He is likely going to be able to get a lower rate if he qualifies for aid, but since it sounds like the hospital is filled with assholes I woulldnt count on it. There are things he can do though such as file complaints with jchoa (federal commission overseeing all hospitals) in addition to seeing what a lawyer says. It is hard to sy at this point since we don't have all the details. I am guessing that they aren't doing too well with the HIPPA and privacy act which are huge issues...I am just assuming a lot at this point.

Bottom line-dig deep into those pockets people because this is going to be super expensive :-/

I've never experienced american healthcare before and I find it horrific. Now I know Keith is on the road to recovery all I'm thinking is how every day is more $$ and I find everyone incompetent. I've been documenting everything that happened so far so maybe we have something to say when the bill comes but who knows. My biggest idea now is changing his name to Kevin Miller, Kevin and the girl has a certain ring to it right?

American healthcare really is fucked up. And unfortunately it isn't going to be all in one nice bill, he will be billed for each separate service that he received and then the doctor's bills will be separate from that. And they will likely be coming in throughout the next year. It is really, really stupid and I am really, really sorry you have to go through it. I had to go through something similar a few years ago and spend most of my day helping my clients deal with these dumb system it is fucking ridiculous. There is a little bit of good news in that there are things that you can do. The majority of places will allow for payment plans. Additionally, all hospitals have patient advocates and/or representitives where I recommend you tell your complaints to. Don't be afraid to mention going to JCHOA (http://www.jointcommission.org/) where you can file complaints as well. All hospitals have to follow their standards as it is a federal company. I would definitely get a lawyer involved too if there was anything that they did or did not do that could have jeopardized his health.

I can't even imagine having the mindset of having to be worried about how to pay when a loved one is sick. It should be the last thing on your mind. I'm so grateful to live in Australia where i can call an ambulance and go to the emergency room without having to worry about paying. I hope Keith gets well soon.
