I wanted a TV Stand with built in VESA mount and the one that matched the rest of our furniture the best could hold up to a 55" TV. so I got a Vizio 55" 120hz w/o 3D for ~850 @ Costco last summer

My old roommate had one set up in our dorm. I'm not sure what the picture depends on, prolly the projector, but you can hook up any speakers you want. Ours was just as versatile as a TV in that regard. Surround sound, the works.
