Another good podcast and props for taking the effort to give us our fix.

Michael is so spot on. I was at the first few Internet worlds and at first there were all these companies that had no real reason to be and so many of the booths were manned by the techies and the clueless VPs (since the Internet was "hot!"). There were also a lot of students and kids who paid full admission price only to be ignored since they weren't buying services. As Michael says, once things pick up the marketing people will be hired.

So tell us are they giving out a lot of useless chachkas like pens that light up, golf Ts, stress balls, pens, key chains, bottle openers, size XL t-shirts, pens...? The first few conventions I attended I used to grab all this stuff and be like "look at the free shit I got!" but after a while you can use only so many pens and the last thing I want lying around is a deteriorating blue Nerf football that says "www.give-me-business.com". Now I scope the booths and only get what I can actually use or give away.

The worst booths are the ones that make you sit through a presentation for a stuffed bear. Spare me.

Oh - and those convention contests - they're rigged.

that reminds me of the best car crash I ever saw. Driving up to New York one Christmas, just past Baltimore.

Something caused all the traffic to stop on the interstate at a really busy part. All the cars slammed on their brakes, tires burning rubber. A huge trailer was directly in our lane and we were just far enough back to slam on the breaks without hitting it. The car in the left lane was not so lucky ...

it slammed into the rear of the car in front, and the car in front FLIPPED IN THE AIR 180 DEGREES AND LANDED TOP DOWN ON THE ROOF OF THE OTHER CAR!

The traffic came to a stop and the car on top was perfectly balanced roof to roof on the car beneath it. The passengers still sitting in their seats with no injuries. The cars barely damaged except for the bumpers.

The physics required for that to happen must have been hugely improbable.

The worst part though, was that for most of the journey I was messing around with a camcorder and filming the scenery. I literally turned it off ten seconds before the crash because there was nothing interesting to see. "I'm a moron. Why did I switch off the camcorder? Stupid stupid stupid."

That could have been a fucking goldmine for all those car accident TV shows.

Torrents can be pretty cool but not for Podcast distribution. There aren't enough fans that could seed the shows for it to be effective.

For 41mega a show, I would think 5-7 would be enough to seed.

We could try it for a few shows see what happens.

I am thinking the LybSyn guys are just holding on long enough for MIcrosoft or Google to buy them. Google has the bandwidth, Yahoo would of been a gret buy, but they did their own kind of thing, and don't really host podcast.
