Also, what about PADI certification. I learned to swim will learning to scuba dive. You can control your breathing to float. It's really cool.

There was a social study about how people act in groups. When they put people alone in a room waiting for an interview and started sending in some smoke through the air vent, it took them seconds to react to it and open the door. When they were in a group, it took minutes for anyone to react. They kept glancing around, waiting to see what anyone else was going to do. The fear of being socially awkward, being the first one to react like something was a big deal while everyone else was taking it calmly, kept them from making a big deal out of it.

I thought of this study when Keith talked about taking a plate, and suddenly everyone else was doing it. They all wanted to do it, they were just not going to be the first one to do it. Sometimes it just takes one person to not just do what everyone else is doing to make life a little better for everyone (or to keep everyone from dying in a fire).
