Does it count as not paying the check if you did pay the check?

No. It doesn't count.

Go Brolo
I Never go to a restaurant in hopes of tipping when I can... no no no. Go when you can afford the cost and 15-20% tip min at least.

Don't get me wrong that played a major part in this crime as well.

I had no idea Canadians were known for bad tipping until it was mentioned on the show. I don't travel much outside of the country so I just didn't even realize. The standard here is a 15% tip before taxes and that is not suppose to include the booze. I tip 15% on the entire bill, before taxes, 20% if it was an intensive meal (lots of people, requests, time spent at the table) and I tip 25% for breakfast because the bill is usually lower. Canadian waitress and bartenders have to declare their tips here (reason to give more) but they are given a higher minimum wage (8.75 an hour)

Head down.... I apologize for all the stingy Canadians out there who have not educated themselves of the bad tipper factoid.

So now that I am in the "know" I have made a special effort to be an educated tipper. When we went to Punta Cana last year I researched the tipping rule before going and guess what, we got better service because we tipped well and often :-)

Is United States: Tipping & Etiquette - TripAdvisor generally on-point?

They judge it on happiness but at a minimum 15% normal.
