No one breaks down what's up with politics quite like the Knefels. A++
Also, whenever Keith busts out the ol' Globe to explain something, uh, geographical and such, I'm in tears, dying of laughter. Before he even explains that Syria is outside of America - I can't breathe! I love that Globe. Best KatG Prop ever! Katguh Award winning? Absolutely. Also-also, Chemda's suggestion of America's leaders being on minimum wage is/ was brilliant. Last edited by Enunciated Piffle; 09-19-2013 at 09:01 PM. |

My first impression, upon hearing Chemda postulate that all Presidents should have a military background, was to shudder.
My obsevation has been that most military leaders in the US are grossly hawkish and are often at odds with the State Department on issues such as Syria. Singling out McCain as an example - well, he was a POW wasn't he? A man who has arguably experienced the worst of war, yet he is one of the most hawkish politicians going around. Yet John put forward the example of Hagel - a much more measured man and one who seems to genuinely consider all aspects of a given situation - so maybe Chemda's suggestion isn't so crazy after all. Looking at America from my vantage point here in Australia, the US Government is the ultimate shit show. The world - and particularly the Middle East - want the US to butt the fuck out. Syria is, essentially a domestic concern and the only things that the States should consider doing is ramping up it's humanitarian aid to the masses of refugees flooding across the borders and looking to enact a diplomatic solution by way of Russia - as hard as that pill is to swallow. The U.S. needs to get out of the business of perpetual warfare because people are fucking sick of it. As John rightly pointed out, the recess has meant that congressmen and women have had to actually face their constituencies - and their constituencies have told them, "we're sick of war". The U.S. posturing by way of threat of military to make themselves look good with respect to Iran is a waste of time. The new Iranian leader is to speak at the U.N. like, next week (? that date). And the money going round is that he is going to be far more moderate than Aqua-dinner-jacket ever was - and it is likely that he will seek to bring Iran back into the fold as a responsible nation, working constructively with the wider global community. Israel's Right can bleat all it wants about being alone in the region but, I suspect that their nefarious activities are going to bring them undone quicker than anything Iran might do. So yeah...good luck with that government shut down next week...

One thing you never hear concerning America's involvement in these foreign 'civil' wars is this. It is a civil, internal war. It literally needs to be figured out by the locals so that they can progress and evolve on their own.
Can you imagine what America would look like today if England or Spain got involved in our war between the North and the South? It's bad enough we have southerners flying the Confederate flag and reenacting the war they lost. If foreign powers arbitrarily got involved in America's civil war; America would be a completely different place. I say the same of Syria or any other un-evolved country. They need to figure it out and earn it on their own. |
