I think it was the YouTube game reviewer TotalBiscuit that said "Reddit is a shithole, but it's a useful shithole." That's completely true. Visit the site if it's useful for news or whatever, but don't expect anything good to come from interacting with Redditors and try not get angry when they shit on you, which they will almost always do. In particular, don't expect anything you submit to any subreddit to do well if it's not something the hive mind already knows and likes. Keep in mind that only 10% of readers have accounts and of those, only 10% vote on submissions.
