To build on the points above;
1. You can totally play Candy Crush for free 2. BUT the model, with the time delays, similar to many free games, rely on people wanting to play the game at their own pace rather than having to wait to earn new lives or for crops to grow or other ridiculousness 3. That being the case, they offer the chance to play at your own pace at a cost. So for kids with no impulse control, why not pay $1 to keep playing? I've never paid money to play an app game like that but I can see how it could happen. Meanwhile, am I the only one wondering, what's the under/over on Keith's candy Crush spending?

The game is FREE of course... A future poll should be: Does Chemda's Understanding of Capitalism Provide Keith With A Means To Pay His Bills? That or is Chemda a Jew? Whichever works Last edited by Enunciated Piffle; 11-22-2013 at 07:52 AM. |

I don't want to live in a world with shady fuckers like candy crush, but I do. Chemda is a wonderful human being, and not a bitch in any way.
I'm on level 153 and haven't paid them a cent. My kid has a Kindle that's locked the fuck down. |

The key word here is "impossible" you should replace that with "impatient" the levels can be cleared but it takes time, the pay option is quicker but sort of like googling "cheats" for a game you are playing. You can advance to the next level but it kind of defeats the purpose of playing the game.

I've never played Candy Crush, but this is my experience with shady apps.
Free to play games are shady. When you start they say, no commitment, here's something free. Then they say "psych! if you want to progress bring 5 friends." Then you reach a point where they tell you that you have to buy gold bars to progress. But you think, about how you've played for a few hours and enjoyed it so you drop a few bucks. Well you find out quickly that for pretty much everything later on you need these gold bars that you can only get with real money. They try to hook you before you realize the unreasonable amounts of money you would have to spend to progress. Sure its legal, but it just feels like they're trying to trick you. The problem isn't that they're trying to make money, everyone needs to make money. Other games make money without trying to trick you. Angry Birds has a free version, but in the app store we all know that "free" means "demo." We understand that if we like the demo we can pay a reasonable amount of money and we get a full game. Its all up front. You don't get 3 hours in and find out that every next level requires you to drop a few dollars. Last edited by Electric Squirrel; 11-22-2013 at 11:02 AM. |

caveat emptor
they /are/ trying to trick you. but, we have reviews and brains and stuff. if a body gets pissed that they spent a shit fuck ton of money on their bathroom hobbies, i think that says more about that person than the industry. it clearly works. elsewise it wouldn't be a thing. |
