Costs: Camera rentals, venue, crew, possibly sound equipment, possibly catering. The door really doesn't offset, though after a couple of dvds, the venue might give you a break. Still, it's costly. The good news is that the extra costs brought on by inexperience are minimized in this case.

because people and things cost money: venue; staff; auxiliary professionals; marketing materials; merchandise, etc.
i'm honestly surprised with how you listen to the show you can't fathom what an event might take. it's literally what Chemda does for the show. she talks about it. |

I've never heard Chemda talk about how it costs KatG $180,000 to film for an hour. Just seems crazy pricy. My point was that it's sad to think a comedian like Judy spends all this time on a set, but can't afford to film it. Sparrow, you've been fathom-ing quite a bit and clearly have ears that hear the show a bit better than someone like myself. How much does it cost K & C? I mean, Chemda talks about it so much... |

i don't know the nuts and bolts of KATG's budget. it's none of my business. but the shows that i produce run on a shoestring at $1,000. like, that's stupid no money and several of my artists working on love and even then, i don't have the wherewithal to film and have something edited at the level and in the ways that Louis CK can. Louis C.K. is an enormously bigger operation. events are things that takes months to pull off. human people doing those jobs get paid.
your snark is noted, btw. |

I remember KatG talking about that guy who fucked up the filming of , (was it KATG Week 2012?) and I've been wondering since what the cost was/is.
Didn't Newsy and Lauren end up filming most of it? There is a stand up special by Dana Gould called 'Let Me Put My Thoughts In You.' The material on it is great, but he had comedy writer/ Mr Show co-host Bob Odenkirk film it. Odenkirk is arguably a comedy genius, but the way he filmed it ; ruined the dvd. He had the camera pick up on all the shadows being cast from Dana as he moved on stage. It's super distracting. Makes ya think all ya need is good lighting and a camera. |

i really feel for judy. it's great and exciting here in this new frontier where the technology has made the production process more accessible; easier and cheaper. but, it's a bit of an industry sea change and for those who made their careers before it happened it's a serious learning curve. the performance end is not the end all.

Oh Piff....
Look, im just gonna tell you that i was at Patton's last special's filmingand he had to re-do a bit two times in a row, cause he goit somethin on his jacket that ruined the shot. even the most basic of specials is SUPER expensive. So are albums, most of the time. Thats why comedians you like need support, torrenting stand up si like shooting at a baby. |

Patton had to 're-do' a joke? That kind of sucks. I love me some Patton, but being at the recording of an album doesn't sound like a good show to see. You and Sparrow are right though. Just because a comedian has worked the material and got it down pat; they still have to have it recorded just right for the performance to shine. |
