Your mailman isn't out to get you people. Your carrier also doesn't expect you to tip them. In the 7 years I worked there I probably got a whopping $200. Hardly a scam. You're one of hundreds on his/her route. If you don't tip that's fine. I don't advocate one way or another. Shitty or not, your mail gets delivered 6 days a week and unless you mail things out yourself, you don't pay anything for that.

You just said if you tip you get better service. How do you mean? Does the person tipping get BONUS mail?

No. If you don't tip, you get shitty service. If you didn't tip the guy at Christmas (the acceptable normal time), you need to make nice with the guy on the side in some way - maybe tell a personal story he/she can relate to so they feel like you're friends.

Now, Keith, I know you and Chemda are big supporters of the post office and have spent lots of money with them so I thank you for that. You're great and this isn't for you. Your carrier is just a dickhead. I don't know what you mean by "who isn't the Government," though. The PO doesn't get money from the gov't. The PO makes it's money from people mailing things. The carriers then deliver those things usually to thankless people who can only bitch about junk mail and are only interested in talking about what the weather is doing and if I'm cold, hot, or wet enough. When I returned to the truck after an encounter like that I would take out my notebook to see if they left a tip the previous December and if they hadn't, I made sure the next day to sweat on their mail or drop in the dog shit I just stepped in to get back at th....Oh wait, that last part never happened cause that would be crazy!
