Isn't getting busted for a little weed what everyone's complaining about?

I'm not really up to joining this million page debate so late in the day, but I do see Keith's point.

I actually just wanted to say w00t for another person from the gorgeous dark continent listening to the show for so long. Lekker, bru, lekker. I loved hearing about your spiritual journey.

When I bring this up to people, they immediate change the argument to about how alcohol is worse than marijuana or how unjust the laws are.

This is what saddens me about the conversation over the last few decades. Although really good points were brought up, the institutional thinking against it never bothered to talk honestly about it. Their position became absurd particularly regarding the prison sentences. This resulted in legalization proponents with little to have to argue and winning agreement from people just because the opponents were so absurd.

I remember early on marijuana was compared to junk food. Junk food harms society and yet it is legal. Although there are differences between the two, I think that is a great conversation to have regarding a healthy society, individual liberty, and using laws to as a way to ensure our long-term rational thinking overcomes our short-term impulsive thinking. (Like why it is easy to say you'll exercise daily next week than today because you want to watch 16 and Pregnant.) But we never had it. We just screamed that the other side was idiots.

My folks smoked weed and none of their four kids do today, all adults with families. I think weed saved my dad from ending up in bar fights or driving drunk.

I get what your saying about the legality part but the whole illegal thing is absurd anyway.

You never know, Keith! Some people smoke weed and become geniuses! Like Popeye and spinach but better 'cause weed is more natural than genetically modified canned spinach from grocery stores.

We all know people that weed makes smarter, of course. It'd just be fun to see a list of people that got smarter from it throughout history.
