We'll see Autos first in the transport industry, replacing truckers and taxi drivers. It doesn't matter how much one of these cars costs up front, that will still be cheaper than paying a driver or providing benefits. And the safety aspect has already been proven by Google's safety record with their cars driving all over the place. Some people will reject these out of hands, but a car that you don't actually have to drive and is safer will eventually replace manuals. They'll be the majority of the vehicles in the road in, at most, 20 years. Probably closer to 5 as most new drivers will buy them.

And Alan Turing's story is just tragic. His work breaking the German code's was classified so the Soviets wouldn't know what the British were up to, so most people thought he was a coward who dodged the draft. I don't think his work was declassified until the 60's, well after his conviction and suicide.

I suppose, but I figure it's a safe bet since the cars exist right now in California and a handful of states are debating legislation to allow them. Perhaps the use of the word majority is a bit much, but I don't see how they don't put taxi drivers and truckers out of work pretty soon. Maybe delivery services as well.

Though maybe I should be more conservative and just say that in my lifetime most jobs and most long distance vehicles will be automated.

Great episode. I was listening to this one when I was walking through a kids tennis tournament at the park on my way to work this morning. It was pondering what these southern conservative parents would think if they knew I was listening to a story of a fat chick being swarmed by a bunch of frolicking nude men at an orgy?

I couldn't look those little bastard tennis players in the face.

This is the video that got me thinking about this. Something like 45% of the labor force is susceptible to automation of some kind.

What about the inevitable integration of machine and man? What Kurzweil calls the 'Singularity.' It was on Netflix for a bit. Well worth the watch.

Humans Need Not Apply is interesting. I don't like the guy's robotic voice though. He sounds like an auto read version of Myq Kaplan
