I agree with Keith - Turn your fucking camera sideways!

The amount of "on the scene" videos I've seen on the news that have been ruined because people were so inconsiderate about not turning their camera 90 fucking degrees...it's rage inducing.

Can we all agree on a distance between the cop and the guy in the video right before they started shooting? I'd estimate that at what...3 metres? (roughly 10 feet?). Go ahead and stand that far away from a wall, put your hands out, pretend your holding a gun a tell me that you wouldn't be able to hit someone's leg, even if the guy is dancing all over the place.

Here's a great article (a blog post really, but well researched) explaining how dangerous it is to be 10 feet from someone with a knife:

At 10 feet away, a knifer will be able to reach and stab a gun-toting defender, even if the gun user has his hand on his holstered weapon, draws fast, sidesteps, and is 100% aware of the impending attack (unless that defender ALSO fires from the hip, which is itself an extremely low-accuracy shot).

Even if you are skilled and lucky enough to get a gun out in this tiny window, your chance of hitting the target is low, and that's assuming you are firing from a stance and not the hip. Trained police officers only have a 38% hit rate at 0-2 feet when under stress!

So? Trained police officers only have a 38% hit rate at 0-2 feet. If they shoot for his leg and miss (and they likely would), then that police officer is dead if he's attacked with a knife. Do me a favour and actually read the article.

The article is talking from the perspective of having your gun holstered and being able to take it out, aim and fire at an attacker who's running straight at you.

Also the 38% thing is murky since the first paragraph says 0-2 yards and then it talks about 0-2 feet. From the looks of it, i think he meant 0-2 yards. Still a pretty damn short distance granted...but if officers are missing 62% of shots taken at targets 2 feet away (that's two subway sandwiches!!) then we're in some serious trouble.

I'll concede though 0-2 yards is still pretty damn close, and from the looks of it seems to be closer than the distance the cops were from the guy in the video.

Still say 12 shots was too much though, but oh well - just another dead black guy in america right?
