FTM vs Dyke or Masculinity and Embodiment
Lauren,
Brah I keep meaning to post something and spacing it so forgive me cause I don't have the exact title of a piece written by queer theorist Jack Halberstam. It opened my eyes up about masculinity (and I consider my knowledge about gender to be very advanced). In the piece Halberstam talks about the different ways FTM dudes (transmen) access the technologies of embodiment (surgery, testosterone, binders...) versus the ways (self idenitifed) Dykes access these technologies. In some cases Dykes may opt to have top surgery and take T but not have any interest in identifying as trans. Point being there are many many variations and sometimes the only difference is the way someone self identifies. I have the piece in a course reader. I can scan it for you. You might also enjoy Jack's blog. This post talks about pronouns. Jack used to go by Judith and it's very confusing for folks at the University I work at: » On Pronouns Jack Halberstam |

I'm about 45 minutes in right now where Chemda is saying girls feel bad for having smalls boobs. I just want all you ladies to know I like a small, pixie frame. Don't feel bad about not having big boobs. You'll be thankful in the future when you don't bounce them off your knees or don't have back problems.
If you're self conscious and need reassurance send me some pictures and I'll compliment you. |
