I see no problem with the pictures at all, but I do find it weird that those pics were the ones the mother wanted to post.

My knee-jerk feeling was that Chemda was correct and Keith and Lenny sounded like weird old guys. But in cases like this, it's always instructive to ask yourself "would the situation still seem equally appropriate if the genders were switched?".
Yes, I'm feeling this weirdness in my own head but it's also a reflection of social norms of the society I live in. I'd also like to make it clear that, despite being way older than her, I feel no guilt about finding the daughter attractive and sexy--she's a sexually mature, attractive, adult human female (of course I'm going to find her attractive!). Some father posts on Facebook: "I'm so proud of my daughter! Here everyone, look at these photos she took to show how attractive and sexy she is." I've gotta say, there is a twinge of social weirdness going on with that. Dude, your daughter very-probably took those photos to showcase her attractiveness (to friends but also potential sex partners). I'm not going to say the parent is a freak or call them out for this act alone. But it's just a bit weird--and that's Keith's position ... just that it's weird. That said, as a father (which I'm not) I'd want my sexy daughter to have a normal fulfilled social life. You're only young once, enjoy yourself (with a partner that loves and respects you) and be safe. I see that the poll is skewed strongly towards Chemda but I will be voting for Keith. And no matter what the poll says, I feel that it's inappropriate for Chemda to have laughed and jeered at Keith's suggestion that there's something weird about a parent doing this--laughing at Lenny was totally OK though. P.S.: Lenny is totally wrong in saying "some of the photos are a little much"--Lenny is being an old fart by saying that. Reference Material (Yeah, WTF, right?) The dispute:

If the dad posted these pictures instead of the mom, would it be weird? Boom! That's a great point! I'm rich! |

Is it interesting that I guarantee you won't congratulate your daughter going to college by re-posting 7 selfies she took?
In fact, I think you'll remember this talk when the time comes and even though you'd like to re-post her selfies out of principle, you still won't. But only time will tell. |

have you guys never seen the back of a yearbook? the part where the parents write a little note to their graduating senior surrounding by pictures of said senior? it's the literal same thing. there is nothing weird about it.

I was on hold with the healthcare timewasteplace for the third time today when I started listening to this episode.
Somehow, they managed to un-insure my four-year-old son this month! Thanks, Obamacare! And thanks, big insurance and big pharma (and their subsidiary politicians) for blocking a single-payer system. |
