Well said, Cock Rings. Still think fucking your dad and having kids is weird/creepy/wrong, but you make valid points.

Seems pretty valid to me. It's the reason I voted that way as well.
Incest is yucky, but so are other kinds of sex. If they aren't hurting anyone (without consent), they shouldn't go to jail. |

I think the father having sex with his daughter is hurting her. Just because this teenager 'consents' to having sex with her father doesn't mean that there is no harm being done. I understand there are many issues with legislating sexual morality. But I also think there should be some rules that protect people from harm. That is why underage people can not legally give consent. I don't think you should legally be able to give consent to having sexual relations with your parents. I think thats kind of insane because it is clearly unhealthy and therefore harmful, but thats just me...

Also, what with all these friends and people in their lives that are totally cool with this relationship? Her best friend, his ex girlfriend room mate/whatever, the grandparents?! Did everyone who lives there collectively take a crazy pill?

do you want your tax dollars going towards incarcerating these people? would you be ok with incest, like marijuana, being one of those pipelines into for-profit prisons? how punitive do you want to get?
do we really need to legislate this little bit of gross? |

I understand what you're saying and I do think some lines can be drawn in terms of legislation about what is really wrong and what is just kind of gross- i.e. incest between parent and child which I think is wrong (should be illegal) and incest with your second cousin which I think is just kind of weird.
Also i really don't think people have adult incestuous relationships as often as people smoke pot. I don't think the two are any where near equivalent in terms of what the rates of incarceration would be. I agree that you can't monitor what people do in the bedroom but you can make certain moral decisions as a society. I don't think this type of situation can be compared to homosexuality or orgies, or bondage or anything that is between two consenting adults. Incest between parent and child (even an their adult child) is a specific and harmful situation and I think its ok as a society to make a judgement call on it. You want to go make out with your second cousin, ok whatever, I wouldn't do it but I don't really care if you do. I think this situation is different. The real issue is harm. Is there harm being done in this situation? I think yes and therefore it should be legislated against. I don't think smoking marijuana hurts anyone- therefore I don't think our tax dollars should be wasted incarcerating thousands of people on low level drug offenses. |
