On isis. Like people said before: neither condoning, excusing, or anything of the sort.

But seeing American foreign policy from the outside it pretty fucking brutal, and I think many people might think of joining isis - or other terrorist organizations - as the only possible way to take a stand. America (with European help) kills thousands of innocents. Dronestrikes during weddings are an example. Bombing of civilian areas and similar tactics are entirely commonplace; Vietnam was mentioned, where the US used chemical warfare that to this day affect the population. And changes in political leadership seems to have no effect: Obama has escalated the drone program immensely, killing more civilians than Bush did with drones.
So I think young muslims see this and think "how can I help my Muslim brothers and sisters who are being terrorized by this giant?" And so are more easily won over by extremist rhetoric and ideology.

It seems a lot, if not most, Americans see them selves as simply 'the good guys' and in a lot of ways that's true, but in a buch of other ways it's just not the case. America commits warcrimes all the time, but aren't held accountable, terrorism, then, is seen as a way of making America accountable. A moraly bankrupt, fucked up, disgusting way.

Very true that drone killings are breading new fighters as they kill the old ones. Also, the horrific, useless, and inept torture program. The Republican's hate-mongering on Muslims. This doesn't happen in a vacuum. Muslims see this and America/Western counties come out as the clear bad guy to them.

We sit on our high horse and proclaim a moral high ground yet we torture people. I love America but I'm ashamed of that part of my country.
