When I heard about Keith's PRP injection horror story, I thought I'd share my story of the other option - cortisone injections.
I've got tendon problems in both feet, probably from years of running including marathons. I wake every morning in pain and it can be excruciating to walk down the stairs in the morning. I decided to climb Kilimanjaro this past January, so I got cortisone injections in both feet. The doctor had a 10cm (4-5 inch?) needle that he would bendbefore inserting into my foot at the ankle. He'd inject some cortisone pull it out a bit inject some more, and when he got it around 80% out he'd push it back in in a different direction. Four different locations in each foot. I didn't let myself make a make a sound, I'm not a pussy, but Fuuuuuuuuuuuuk. The injection was meant to last three months and I was pain free, like some miracle, for almost exactly three months. The original pain is back now and I was about to make an appointment to go back and go through it all over again. I think I forgot or repressed the experience but Keith's story made it all came back to me. Now I think I can wait a few more weeks, or months before I go though that shit again. Maybe next time I do this ... http://www.keithandthegirl.com/forum...1&d=1427509254

I've had a cortisone shot in a knuckle as well - right into the joint. I'd say not as painful as the tendon, but very uncomfortable. I sort of felt like I might faint.
So maybe joints aren't as painful? My guess is it'd come down to how much fluid gets injected in, maybe. The good new is, it's a fricken miracle, so you'll feel amazingly better amazingly quickly. (but only for three months) I reckon ask the doctor is there is any chance of a local anaesthetic. Sure its another injection, but I think it'd be way smaller. The doc'll probably say - "everyone asks that after the first time" Last edited by My Sweaty Balls; 03-27-2015 at 11:48 PM. |

Unfortunately the effects of cortisone shots will diminish, while the frequency will increase. I haven't listened to this episode yet, but I did the previous and I think you should hold-out for the special shot. I'm in pain everyday, so I know it's hard to comtenplate waiting any longer but try to hold-out until one of these crazy doctors gives you a long term solution.
