i am finding a particular frustration with his defender camps who are using the line "nobody's perfect." i think while it does call for a compassionate response, and i can get behind those, it's an understatement that neither honors the complexity of the situation nor encourages constructive large scale conversation.

It's easy for me to say I'd turn my kid in because I don't have any. But if I did and he/she was in trouble I'd be with them, for as much as I could, as they go through the process of trial, incarceration, counseling etc.

as for the poll, It's easy to be all hypothetically high and mighty but I have no idea what I'd do if I found out one kid was molesting my other kids. I think initially it would depend on how...obvious the trauma was for the victim. Was it penetrative rape, do I see bruises? Maybe then I'd beat the fuck out of the other kid. I wanna say I'd take them to some kind of clinic but I'm sure all professions are bound to go to the police with stuff like that anyway.

food for thought: so, by all accounts some of the things we, as the freaky people we are, participate in are subversive. but, the things we find subversive are just as unusual. like, saving your first kiss for your wedding day. it's a real ideal for some people, but i find it an incredibly radical and subversive act.

I understand not all children who were molested grow up to molest others, but how far of a grasp would it be to say Josh was molested himself as a child? Also, were they good family friends with the state trooper they confessed to? I'm grasping at straws, for sure, but it's pretty coincidental that the one and only trooper they brought this info to just shook a finger, said 'tsk tsk', and then just let them go on their merry way was a fucking chomo himself. It could've just been the luck of the draw, but if they are as powerful and influential in their state as it seems, they'd know just the right cop to tell their dirty secrets to.

Yeah. There's a good chance of Josh being molested. But the whole '19 kids in a weirdo religious family' makes it hard to tell.
