I'll admit, I know next to nothing about NWA or gangsta rap as a whole, but is the whole "fighting oppression" thing giving them a bit too much credit? Granted they were big and important in the history of rap, and by virtue of being famous while black they're going to have an impact. But were they really fighting oppression? Or were they just misogynist gangbangers? Like, just because the police are often bad, doesn't automatically make them heroes for saying "fuck the police." Especially if they are like, legit murdering people, as they claim.
