The salient points are in my previous post - it looks like statins are wildly over prescribed, but you just might be the guy who benefits. (so I would not stop taking them unless I REALLY loved grapefruit)

The most important point is that statins are very good at lowering cholesterol, but even with the lower cholesterol, on average, patients don't have better health outcomes, for instance they die at pretty much the same rate people with high cholesterol.

as always - more science is needed
