2439: Laugh Riot

For me, the main distraction of the laughter--in this case, Libby's--is that she's not miked. Laughter on the show isn't distracting for me when it comes from guests or anyone sitting at the tables in front of a microphone. And I really enjoy Libby as a guest on this show and That's The Show Which Shall Not Be Named.

It's something about taking me out of the moment, getting me away from the feeling of actually being at the table listening to the conversation going on. When someone makes noise from outside the conversation, it's distracting. Libby's not the first; Danny sometimes gets caught off guard and we can hear him laugh. Other visitors--men and women--laugh from time to time as well. I think it's just that Libby laughs so easily and so often that made her a target this time around.

What bothers me a bit is how quickly Keith dismisses anyone who brings this up as being a humorless jerk. Keith--who we've heard in the past expressing annoyance at air conditioners, fans, airplanes, traffic, construction, gum chewing, dry mouths; most of these I never even hear. But he's obviously very particular about his sound quality, yet when listeners speak up about what we find distracting, we've gone too far.

It's a coincidence that I know Todd is a hard-on. So it's hard to hear what he says.

Second, laughter will never bother me. There's nothing more beautiful than smiling, baby. And if you got smiles, you got everything.

Nothing wrong with laughter in the studio whether it's miked or not, and certainly nothing wrong with Libby's laugh, in the studio or IRL.

It was great to meet all you guys at the Creek last week when I was in New York. Good to meet Xerxes as well - now he's got a laugh! I'm sure his laugh will be well heard in the Nick Turner recording.

And for the record, Chemda was on time for dinner.

I've only been listening for a yearish but to hear you throw Libby under the bus and then fucking silence her because a few douchebags (almost all of who you called assholes when you read their complaints) can't get past a woman's laugh is about the douchiest. Stand up for your girl man.

I have no idea if I'm deaf or what, but I have never noticed Libby laughing before and had NO idea what people were talking about listening to this episode, even when I went back episodes to try and see if I was crazy. Tried different headphones, without headphones, couldn't find anything so annoying that I felt the need to rage about it haha.

I guess it's just something I consider to be a natural part of the show, or like I said, maybe I'm deaf.
