247: The PodShow Contract

Regular listeners of DSC will know that Adam Curry's show is called "Daily Source Code" because he used to alpha-test audio software, and he would prepare audio files containing his comments about the software, and distribute those files to the programmers, who listened to the comments and then changed the source code of the software, then sent Adam another copy of the program.

That is also why the show is so casual, and includes things like Adam answering his phone and checking his Blackberry, or running into the kitchen to check his coffee-maker.

thanks Curry, im sure at least a couple people listening to that show downloaded the KATG podshow contract reading show and got hooked. to paraphrase Curry, "KATG might be good, but they arent Dawn & Drew, (insert stupid curry/devil laugh)" keep sending them this way, AC, we now have over three thousand forum members, compared to Dawn & Drew's 2691. ranked #69 in the top 100 of all podcasts, D&D arent even in the top 100. ranked #8 in comedy podcasts, had to dig for D&D, as they arent on the front page, found em at #28. and KATG are a little bit higher everytime i check, and D&D are a little bit lower. KATG arent D&D,Curry, thanks for pointing them out as your comparison. thank gawd!

There's a player on the PCH site so you don't need to download it. I feel sorry for the guy, setting himself up as a comedy/rant show then not being even slightly witty and producing toothless rants. I wish I could get pissed off at him for bagging KATG but he's just too harmless to react to. Six months after I discovered podcasting it shouldn't surprise me how many well-produced but mediocre shows there are, but it still does. Same with any field of entertainment I guess, but worse because it's so easy to produce a podcast compared to other forms.

go to iTunes, look under podcasts. Ignore the big colorful boxes labeled comedy and all, they just take you to featured content, instead, use the list on the right hand side of the screen to navigate. at its top, theres a dropdown menu for selecting genre, at the bottom, theres a link for the top 100 of what ever your looking at. i know its so far from intuitive as to possibly be considered counterintuitive, blame apple for the UI.

Apple is not a true count of what is the "top 100" If I "subscribe to KATG all day, just click and click and click. I can over inflate the numbers. In the begininng it only counted subscribers, not unique subs, just the number of subs.

if they have changed it then cool beans, but if not, it is not a valid place to get you ranking in life.
