What a great episode! Alzo Slade was a great guest and Rebecca Vigil a cool host. Really cracked me up!
I was also a stupid child. I once forged my mother's name on some nonsense and the results were terrible. I told the teacher, "My mother was out of town so my father had to sign her name." That dog don't hunt. |

My parents didn't really hit me, but once, after I bit my sister for taking my strawberry shortcake doll, my mom bit me back. She said I wouldn't understand how bad what I did was unless I knew how it felt.

My parents beat me and my brother from time to time. It wasn't a regular occurrence, but when it happened it was savage. As an adult, I realize it was a rage issue. Paddles, hands, willow switches, wiffle ball bats, whatever was handy. Usually on the ass and back of legs, but the face was also fair game. Most memorable was a hairbrush, bristles out, to the face. Picture a hundred puncture wounds in your cheek, all bleeding. Thanks mom.
The obvious follow up question, no, I didn't pass that on to my kids. My son was spanked once for biting me. My daughter was never spanked. Both are responsible young adults in their 20's who know right from wrong. |

wow, dude. sorry you went through that.
i didn't get spanked a lot, i was a well behaved child, but on the off chance i got caught up in mischief, it happened one of two ways: one of the old women who was in charge of us kids made us grab our own switches. but, really, you could outrun them especially if there was more than one of you involved. they were generally fine with making an example of any one body they caught and then going off to catch their breath and watch their stories. or my parents would send me to my room. they would go into their room and talk to each other for a while. then one of them would come into my room and over the knee pop my behind. i never remember it hurting. the anxiety waiting for it was pretty bad though. |

coming back to this poll after Nemr of Hope. Gotta say it's always hard for people to identify the shit they went through as abuse after the fact. They spent their childhoods normalizing it.
I, for one, think being made to dig holes and sounds fucking insane but I was hit with wire hangers, shoes, belts and extension cords,. That's what I think it normal. I voted Yes cuz I think my family is super fucked up but thank the sun I didn't get like you know, punched and shit by them. Just my brothers who are 5 and 6 years older

Can you even imagine Trump winning?
I used to get hit with willow tree switches, belts, hangers, flyswatters, and door trim. It’s abuse. I feel like a time traveler that can’t do shit when I’m listening to these older shows. |
