I remember havin a conversation about this with people who knew drag queen first hand and i think the decent thign to do (besides asking) is to use she when they are in drag.

Theyre a little more than artistic figures. People can do drag for fun but not be drag queens on a regular basis. Being a drag queen is a whole culture and identity you choose, that goes beyond the simpel wearing drag.

As for being trans gender, theyre two different thigns, in the sense that you can be trans and not do drag or being cis and do drag.

Again, all second hand knowledge so if i messed up anything i apologize

It was really weird to hear what would otherwise be incredibly intolerant statements coming out of Lady Bunny's mouth. If literally anyone else said these things, I would have been displeased. Coming from Lady Bunny, I can find a way to see the honest criticism, coming from a place of love.

In half defense of Keith: yes many drag queens, just like many gay people, have experienced aggression and/or violence...

BUT, that is NOT the experience of EVERY gay person/drag queen.

So I think when Keith is surprised somebody has NOT experienced it, he should remember it's not every one's experience.

Lady Bunny is quite a commanding presence, and not to be super racial about it, but also a white man... The experience of a gay/cross dressing POC can be WAY different and met with a lot more aggression. You just have to look at the Drag Race girls & how they have been treated on social media. Most of them that are POC experienced WAY more hate online than most of of the other queens...

It seems not only did he not worry about violence for being a drag queen, no one that he knew in 3 decades ever has either.

Must be nice.

To be fair, Lady Bunny references bottles being thrown at her in her stage show, which Libby saw. That's what Keith was getting at with that question.

That old hag probably barely remembers what she says in her own show

That makes sense...

Drag queens seem like white people in blackface to me. It's like they're making fun of women by being clownish.
