OK. Let's talk about this specifically. We agree the detention spaces are terrible, let's move past that.

What actionable steps can we take to change this?

ending the private prison system

increased accountability

Of our justice system... If cops were at minimum held accountable (like "civilians" usually are) for killing unarmed citizens, that's a good start.

another broad stroke: strengthening community relationships with governing bodies; efforts to reduce the "us and them" dynamic.

if we're going to think long term, curb the school to prison pipeline with increased access to after school programs, healthcare, food, and education for low income kids.

end the "war on drugs."

i disagree with a fine system; it favors the wealthy. i'm more inclined to accept restitution in the form of community service. we expand what that means and use it to further non-profit driven local goals.
