“What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.”

— Salman Rushdie

“Censorship is telling a man he can’t have a steak just because a baby can’t chew it.”

— Mark Twain

Stephen King's books may not be for you, Keith.

I've been listening since double digit episodes, and I love you, Chemda and the show! I feel your relationship advice book helped me grow as a human being and to be a better husband.

I also love Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. I understand when its 'too much' for Chemda and others. I don't see that as weakness, just as taste and preference.

I read the Great American Novel when it came out, including the horrific scenes of physical and psychological child abuse depicted in it (Volume "S" of the encyclopedia, dear god, Keith), I found it enthralling. You didn't shy away from the truth.

Neither does King.

In King's own words, here's an excerpt from an interview:

'King doesn't shy away from what motivates his heroes and monsters. “The job of fiction,” King says, “is to find the truth inside the story’s web of lies... in real life, we each of us regard ourselves as the main character, the protagonist, the big cheese.”

This means that our characters, even supporting ones, must have needs, wants, desires, and intrinsic motivations—all of which compel them to act, thus shaping the story. If you do this, King says, “your characters will come to life and start doing stuff on their own. . . . And it will solve a lot of your problems....”

When it comes to story, telling the truth means kicking the notion of plot to the curb. Plot implies forcing characters into premeditated, painstakingly outlined events, which robs our characters of their agency and limits where we can take the story. King describes plot as a jackhammer, an onerous hunk of machinery a writer uses to force the story to go a certain way. “The story which results from it,” he says, “is apt to feel artificial and labored.” He says he’s “never demanded a set of characters to do things [his] way. On the contrary, [he] wants them to do things their way.”

well put Miami-Ken. I haven't read all of King's books of course, but a good number of them and I've never got the vibe that 'wow this guy likes to throw that kid sex in wherever he can.' it sounds like Keith did some research and found that King does have some strange sex and disturbing parts in his books, which obviously is true and in the books (not disputing). The difference I feel is being a reader and a fan of King, or not being a reader of the books, obviously puts things in a different light. I also do not think I've explained myself great, as you can see my very few posts I'm no forum master.

It's nothing to be nervous about, guys. It's just a list. That gives you a little extra attention. And isn't that what we ALL want?

haha of course. I don't even disagree. If I were in your position I'd be starting a list too, to be at least suspicious of. I suppose I think that with more insight into this, King, Ken and I would be clear of the list

"There is a technical term for someone who confuses the opinions of a character in a book with those of the author. That term is idiot."
-- S.M. Stirling

Lists. That made me laugh out loud, Keith!

Lists -- Now that's making America great again, my man!

What a great word: Attention. We give it, we crave it. It is demanded of us. As a former soldier, you know to stand at it. Who wouldn't love it?

I'm know I'm not happy UNLESS my wife is reading my texts, amirite? Passwords are for people with things to hide. I always make my venmo transactions public.

Privacy is just another word for "in the shadows". "Art" is what these fiends call their vice. That's where the monsters hide.

No, let's all enjoy basking in the bright spotlight of Officer Friendly's attention. Don't worry, the body-cameras are on us all now.

- Care to buy me a t-shirt?
- Brumski without consent? #NoBrumski #YesAllBros
- Does this shake tastes funny to you? Tastes like karma.

We don't have anything to hide, right? Of course not. We already know your thoughts. We're always watching. And, for your convenience, we've automatically venmo'd $5.00 for that word you thought when you saw the cabinets were open, and another $3.25 for what you almost thought when you saw the towels, damp and crumpled, like the remnants of freedom and liberty, on the bathroom floor.

Quite the low blow from someone clearly not VIP.
