What hurt the south was the south. They were primarily an agricultural economy, which is not a high profit economy. It's even less profitable if you have to pay workers. Much of the north had moved to an industrial economy, this is really something that has changed more in the last say 20 or so years as Japanese and European car companies looked to make cars here but were shunned by the north industrial base encouraged by the Big Three (GM, Ford & Chrysler).

Also, unrelated to this, all our subway cars are made overseas and trolley cars which used to be in every city are now making a come back also all made overseas. Because GM bought them all and closed them in order to increase the cost to cities providing mass transit and drive up the demand for cars.

Do you think Trump is not a racist? He has Steve Bannon and others in his cabinet or staff that are self confessed Alt-Right, that again, self admitting are white Americans for a White America.

Could it be that Trump is not a racist? Is he simply complicit? Is there a difference? IS there another angle I'm missing?

I think:
-If I haven't made it clear yet, that Trump is a racist and that being complicit to racism is the same as racism.

-If you guard the gate to the gas house and know what happens inside you are just as guilty of killing those inside as the guy who turns the handle to release the gas. This may seem extreme but to me it's the same and I think this last weekend proved me right on that count.

-That Trump lead us to this point during his campaign, telling supporters to hit people in the crowd that 'didn't belong'.

-Some of us saw this coming and warned people and we were called snowflakes.

-Not enough Trump supporters or Republicans are jumping off the Trump train. I can only hope the numbers increase dramatically and soon.

-Than not all Trump supporters white supremacists, no, but now a decision has to be made. If you supported Trump do you continue to and be complicit with the violence and hatred of other Americans? To me there is no more waiting to see how things go, something has to be decided.

-It also seems clear the Democratic and other parties are not going to do anything about it until something worse happens. So, we the people must stand up and say NO! BAD DOG! er.. BAD TRUMP!

i like to work out my feelings about stuff here. it's a safe place to be wrong or say everything you really need to say or unpack a tricky issue with people who are great at navigating that process.
